Seed Handling
ACH Seed seeds are custom-bred for your region and treated to protect plants from pests and disease pressures. While these
treatments are designed for the field, simple precautions during handling help protect your health, your farm, and the environment.
By following a few best practices, you help ensure every season starts on solid ground.
DO
- Read the seed label before handling treated seed.
- Wear gloves, long sleeves, and eye protection.
- Handle seed in a well-ventilated area to minimize exposure to dust.
DON'T
- Refrain from eating and drinking while handling treated seed. Always wash up first.
- Avoid bare-hand contact.
- Never leave spills untreated. Cover with soil and dispose of waste properly.
Lifting and Moving Seed Boxes
ACH Seeds seed boxes are built for easier transport, with handles designed to help you maneuver more securely. Using smart
lifting techniques is important to protect your health and avoid back strain. A few simple steps today can help keep you
moving strong for seasons to come.
DO
- Stretch beforehand, check the weight, and plan your lift.
- Know where you’re going—clear your path and set your drop point.
- Use the handles. Grab both handles firmly to keep the load balanced and close to your body.
- Lift with your legs, not your back. Bend your knees, keep your back straight, and engage your core throughout the lift.
DON'T
- Avoid twisting while lifting. Move your feet to change direction.
- Refrain from lifting overhead. If a lift is too high, use equipment or ask for help.
- Don’t block your line of sight. If you can’t see clearly over the load, reposition.
- Don’t push through fatigue. If you're tired, take a break or get assistance.
Hauling and Storing Seed Boxes
Moving seed safely protects more than your investment. It protects you, your equipment, and everyone else on the road.
That's why ACH Seeds follows guidelines based on DOT safe transport practices. A few simple techniques can
make all the difference when hauling seed boxes to the farm or the field.
DO
- Check tires, brakes, lights, and trailer hookups before every trip.
- Secure the load. Use straps, net wrap, or a closed tailgate to prevent shifting during transport.
- Balance your trailer load. Follow the 60/40 rule: load 60% of the weight in front of the axle, 40% behind.
- If the trailer sways, ease off the gas, pull over to reposition the load safely.
DON'T
- Avoid overloading your trailer. Follow the weight ratings for your vehicle and trailer.
- Don’t drive with an unbalanced or unsecured load. Shifting weight can cause loss of control at any speed.
- Never ignore trailer sway. Slow down, pull over, and fix the load.
